God’s PromisesBy David MooreYou know the old joke, a rabbi, a minister and a priest are in a boat in the middle of a lake. The priest says, “I’m thirsty. I’m going to get something to drink.” So he steps out of the boat, walks across the water to shore, gets a soda, walks back across the water and gets in the boat. The minister says, “I’m thirsty, too.” So he walks across the water to the shore, gets a soda and walks back to the boat. The Rabbi says, “My turn.” He gets out of the boat and immediately sinks. The priest turns to the minister. “Think we should’ve told him where the rocks were?” We in life are often confused about where the rocks are. We often try to stand on money, popularity or our own self determination, but realize that these stones are elusive and in the end will not hold us above water. Last night during our testimony time Heather V. shared about the promises of God and how we should claim these promises and live standing on the promises, trusting that they will lead us safely to the shore. Here are just a few that she had found. As I share them with you I hope that you will think about one each day for the next week.
Each day God’s promises are there to comfort us, to carry us and to renew us. Stand strong on God’s word and write it on your heart each day. God Bless, David |
Student TestimonyBy Ryan BootheI was recently in a motorcycle accident that changed my life. The ending of summer break was going ok for me. I was living on my own for the first time, I had moved out my parent’s house, I had a sort of ok job, I just got my motorcycle license and a motorcycle. I was going to be off campus for the first time this semester and was looking forward to riding my motorcycle to class everyday. Everything changed very fast on August 14. It was dark out and I was driving home from Chena Hot Springs. In the middle of the road I saw a momma moose but not the baby. Bam, I hit the calf straight on and the next thing I know I was laying on the ground with the motorcycle on my leg. At that moment I knew God was watching out for me and still is. A nurse was in the car behind me and she pulled over to help me. She already had the ambulance and police on their way, she lifted the bike off me, and she felt around my legs for bleeding. Most people say I am lucky, but I know God intervened and allowed me to live. Honestly, I shouldn’t be here today. A motorcycle always loses in an accident. I managed to…well, not walk away but only break my legs. It could have been worse had I not been wearing a helmet, leather jacket, leather boots, gloves. I had burnt away several holes in my boots and jacket. It amazes me at how bad it could have been had I not been wearing those boots or the jacket and the helmet. Having faith in God has helped me because in the beginning of this ordeal I had a lot of things to deal with, like moving out of my apartment and finding a place to live. God blessed me with some friends who helped me out because I couldn’t do it myself since I was in a wheelchair. There have been so many things that I have had to do and things to get done, but God has been there and hasn’t given up on me. I still have a ton of medical bills, school and other challenges that I am dealing with, but I am taking one day at a time and trying to have faith in God that all will work out in the end, even as I see things come together. Each day I am learning, yet it has definitely been really, really hard. |
